Diagnosis 969

about

This piece was inspired by Evan Meaney's Experimental Video 1 (see the video here: youtu.be/pJzTAHluMw0 ). The video has an old, psychedelic feel to it that I tried to follow with my music. The title of my piece, Diagnosis 969, comes from the diagnosis code for an overdose on psychotropic agents. I attempted to write from the perspective of a disoriented patient lying in a hospital bed, hearing the scurrying hospital staff and beeping heart monitor, and tried to sync the rhythm of the music with the rhythm of the flashing lights as much as possible. The piece ends suddenly with a flat-line as the screen goes dark.
